Pay contractors and EOR hires abroad, then sync bills or a payroll journal into QuickBooks Online or Xero.

Best for

US shops paying contractors or employees in more than one country that will take a per-head bill and post bills or a journal into QuickBooks Online or Xero.

Not ideal if

Anyone whose whole team is in the US and wants a $49 + $6 payroll bill, or who expected Deel to be the ledger.

Standout

Pay people abroad without opening entities, then sync contractor and EOR invoices into QuickBooks Online or Xero as bills.

About Deel

Deel is global payroll and hiring, not a ledger. You add contractors or employees, Deel pays them in local currency (or crypto where supported), and it can sit as Employer of Record in 130+ countries so you do not open a local entity. After you map vendors and expense accounts, contractor, Contractor of Record, and EOR invoices sync into QuickBooks Online or Xero as bills and bill payments. If you run Global Payroll or US PEO on your own entity, you upload a mapping template and manually post a journal. You still close the books there.

It does not replace QuickBooks Online or Xero. Gusto is the US payroll pick with a published base-plus-headcount price and a mapped journal. OnPay is the other published-price US payroll pick and includes all-50-state filings in that base. Rippling is the US workforce platform (HR, IT, spend) if the job is devices and cards, not people abroad. Kick is the replacement ledger. Deel IT ships equipment. That is still not the books.

People who stick are paying contractors or EOR employees in more than one country and will take the per-head bill to avoid opening entities. Owners on public forums cite compliance docs and local-currency payouts. Bookkeepers care that contractor bills land as individual vendors and EOR invoices land under a Deel vendor after mapping.

What people who used it say

What they tend to like

  • Pay people in several countries without opening entities

Owners with teams across North America, Europe, and Africa cite per-country compliance docs and local-currency payouts as the reason they pay Deel's fee.

  • Keep QuickBooks for the books and Deel for pay

r/Payroll commenters who already have QuickBooks treat Deel as payroll, not a QBO replacement, and say the two together cover the job.

  • Contractors get paid on time in local currency

Worker-facing App Store reviews cite on-time payouts, timesheets, and expenses on the phone.

What they hesitate about

  • EOR math is a different sport than US payroll

Forum threads call $599/head (and the contractor $49 stack) brutal next to Gusto or a local payroll shop, especially for a small team.

  • Payroll errors and a long support loop

A r/Payroll shop reported more than one issue a month in the first four months. App Store EOR workers describe AI-chat waits and benefits or payment discrepancies.

  • It is not a QuickBooks replacement, and US-only shops feel oversold

r/Payroll answers say keep QBO for accounting. Other comments say the price makes sense only when you actually have people abroad.

After contractor, COR, or EOR payments, review the Deel bills and per-invoice bill payments in QuickBooks Online or Xero, match them to the bank debit (bulk receipts do not sync), and lock the period in the ledger. For Global Payroll or PEO, trigger the journal yourself after the mapping template is loaded. Unmapped accounts pause the sync. QuickBooks Desktop is not supported.

Grant Integrations Admin (Bookkeeper) so the firm can connect QuickBooks Online or Xero. Deel files 1099-NECs for US contractors on a US entity. EOR and PEO tax filings sit with Deel. The CPA still needs the QuickBooks Online or Xero file for the rest of the return.

Features

Pay contractors and sync bills to QuickBooks Online or Xero

Add a contractor, collect tax forms, and pay in 120+ currencies. Connect from Deel's App Store and map vendors and expense accounts. Deel creates a bill and a bill payment per invoice, and can attach the PDF. Contractors map as individual vendors. Sync when issued, when payment is sent, or when paid. The connector is free. QuickBooks Online Simple Start is not supported. QuickBooks Desktop is not named as supported.

Hire abroad through Employer of Record

Deel becomes the legal employer in 130+ countries. You do not open a local entity. The EOR fee includes managed payroll, tax filings, reporting, and benefits administration. EOR invoices sync as bills under a Deel billing vendor. They do not go through the Global Payroll journal plugin.

Run US PEO payroll and file the taxes

Co-employ a US team on your own US entity. Official Hire tab: all 50 states, managed payroll, tax filings, and benefits included at $125 per employee per month. PEO can post as a journal through GL Sync after you upload a mapping template and trigger the sync. Native Deel Payroll and US Payroll dollars were not printed on the pricing page this pass.

File 1099-NECs for US contractors

Deel collects a W-9 at contract signing. US-entity clients file 1099-NEC to the IRS from Payroll → Tax documents, one entity at a time, for US contractors paid $600 or more in the tax year. You can add amounts paid outside Deel. File window: 1–31 January. Deel fees and expenses are excluded. Non-US contractors get a W-8BEN, not a 1099.

Post a Global Payroll or PEO journal

For payroll on your own entities, Deel posts a journal into QuickBooks Online, Xero, NetSuite, Sage, SAP, or Microsoft Dynamics. Finish G2N mappings, upload a CSV template, then click sync after the run. It does not fire on payroll approval. Payslips and bank receipts do not sync. EOR stays on bills.

Put classification risk on Contractor of Record

If the person looks like an employee, Contractor of Record is the Hire-tab step up from self-managed contractors at $325 per person per month. Deel invoices under its billing vendor on the same bill-sync path as EOR. Use it when misclassification is the risk, not when $49 contractor management is enough.

Pricing

A 5-contractor shop is 5 × $49 = $245/month before FX. Five US PEO employees is 5 × $125 = $625/month. Five EOR employees is 5 × $599 = $2,995/month, before salary, employer taxes, and local benefits. The same 5 US W-2s on Gusto Simple is $79/month. Contractor of Record is $325 per person per month. Talent/ATS starts at $14 per worker and is not payroll. Official FAQ says month to month; a 2026 PEO promo on the same page requires a two-year order form. Global Payroll and US native payroll dollars were not printed on the Hire tab this pass. Deel does not charge for the QuickBooks Online or Xero connection. FX markup is unpublished.
