Tipalti
Pay vendor bills and global payees through approvals, then sync the trail to QuickBooks Online, Xero, or your ERP.
Best for
Finance teams that pay many vendors or payees across countries or entities and want onboarding, tax forms, approvals, and payout in one system next to the ERP.
Not ideal if
A 1–50 person US shop with a short domestic vendor list. Melio or BILL will be cheaper and faster to stand up, and you will still close in QuickBooks or Xero either way.
Standout
One supplier or payee portal that collects tax forms, then pays in 200+ countries and writes bills and payments back to QuickBooks Online, Xero, or a mid-market ERP.
About Tipalti
Tipalti is the accounts payable and mass-payout layer, not the ledger. Suppliers onboard in a self-service portal and submit a W-9 or W-8, tax IDs, and a payment method. Invoices land by email, upload, or e-invoice. Tipalti captures the lines, codes them, runs 2- or 3-way PO matching if you use purchase orders, and routes approvals. You pay by ACH, wire, check, local rails in 200+ countries, or the Tipalti Card. Bills, vendors, and payments sync to QuickBooks Online, Xero, NetSuite, Sage Intacct, and other ERPs. You still close those books.
It does not replace QuickBooks Online or Xero. BILL is the US-priced AP and AR seat product with 1099 e-file in the same app. Melio is cheaper US bill pay with a free ACH allowance. Ramp is card-first spend, not a global vendor-invoice and payout rail. Kick replaces the ledger instead of sitting next to it. Tipalti's job is onboard, capture, approve, pay globally, then write the trail back to the file you already have.
People who stick usually pay a lot of vendors or payees across borders: affiliates, creators, marketplace sellers, or several entities. Controllers keep it for the supplier portal, the tax forms collected at onboarding, and one payout run instead of a spreadsheet plus a bank file.
What people who used it say
What they tend to like
Invoice inbox with ERP dimensions
A controller write-up on r/Accounting describes email-in invoices, mapping to department, class, location, and amortization, plus 2- and 3-way PO matching on NetSuite.
One system for multi-region payouts and tax
On an r/Accounting AP-tool thread, Tipalti is named when the job is US plus India (or similar) compliance and NetSuite, not a cheap US bill-pay app.
Scale payouts without adding AP headcount
The product is built for high payee counts. Official customer stories (GumGum, Sovrn, Zola) are volume shops, which matches how accountants talk about it.
What they hesitate about
PO matching is click-heavy
r/Accounting and r/Netsuite users describe slow PO loads, lots of clicks on 3-way match, and at least one team that terminated after four months because text matching needed too much manual work.
Implementation can stall for months
r/Netsuite threads from 2022 describe contracts signed and still not live six months later, plus a company that backed out after the vendor over-promised.
ERP sync failures and extra fees
A 2025 r/Accounting comment reports frequent NetSuite sync failures and weak error handling. The same thread flags implementation and per-transaction cost. Official pricing confirms transaction fees sit on top of the subscription.

You capture, approve, and pay in Tipalti, then sync bills and payments into QuickBooks Online, Xero, or the ERP. Close is still reconcile and exception cleanup in that ledger. On QuickBooks Online, bills and payments are Tipalti-to-QBO; item-type lines and partially paid bills do not sync. Xero takes bills, payments, and vendor credits from Tipalti and can send POs the other way.
The CPA still opens QuickBooks Online, Xero, or the ERP. Tipalti holds the AP audit trail, W-9/W-8 files, and 1099 / 1042-S prep reports. E-file is an optional push to Zenwork Tax1099, not a built-in IRS submit button with a published per-form price.

Features
Capture, code, and match vendor bills
Invoices arrive by email, upload, or e-invoice. Tipalti captures header and line items, suggests GL coding, and can run 2- or 3-way PO matching. Accountants on public forums say matching works, and also that it can take many clicks when the PO does not match cleanly.
Approval routing before money leaves
Set rules by subsidiary, expense account, department, class, or location, then send the bill to the listed approvers by email or the Tipalti Hub. There is no per-approver seat fee. Official pricing: unlimited users on the published AP and Mass Payments floors.
Pay globally, or pay the bill with Tipalti Card
Pay in 200+ countries and territories, 120 currencies, and 50+ methods (ACH, wire, check, and local rails). Accounts Payable includes the Tipalti Card for invoice payments with cash back. Per-method and FX fees are not published on the pricing page; sales quotes them.
Sync bills and payments to the ledger
API sync is documented for QuickBooks Online, Xero, NetSuite, Sage Intacct, Acumatica, and Microsoft Business Central. On QuickBooks Online, payees can sync both ways; bills and payments go Tipalti to QuickBooks Online. Item-type bill lines and partially paid bills do not sync. QuickBooks Desktop is a file export through Transaction Pro, not a live connector.
Supplier portal with W-9 and W-8 collection
Payees self-onboard in 27 languages, pick a payment method, and complete W-9, W-8, or local tax IDs. Tipalti TIN-matches US tax IDs and prepares 1099 and 1042-S reports. E-file of 1099-NEC, 1099-MISC, and 1042-S is through the optional Zenwork Tax1099 integration; Tax1099's own fees apply.
Mass payouts to creators, affiliates, and sellers
Mass Payments (published floor $249/mo) is the high-volume payout product: one payee portal, tax collection, and a batch to many countries. Prebuilt feeds exist for performance-marketing platforms such as Affise, Everflow, and Cake. This is a different job from paying a short US vendor list.
Pricing
The public floor is $99/month for Accounts Payable or $249/month for Mass Payments, with unlimited users and no per-seat tax. That number is not what a shop actually pays. Official FAQ: you also pay transaction fees by invoice and payment volume, plus extra for more legal entities, extra modules, and some payment methods and FX. Those unit fees are not on the pricing page. A five-person / ~500-transaction US shop that only needs ACH bill pay will almost always spend less on Melio or BILL. Standard implementation is included for common workflows; multi-ERP or custom work is extra professional services. There is no free plan.

Add-on modules

- Procurement (purchase requests and POs)
- Expenses (receipts, reimbursements, Tipalti Card on mobile)
- Treasury and FX
- More complex implementations may need paid professional services

Pick something else instead of Tipalti
BILL
Pick BILL instead if you are a US QuickBooks Online or Xero shop that wants published per-user AP/AR pricing, live two-way sync on Team, and 1099 e-file in the same product.
Melio
Pick Melio instead if you want cheaper US bill pay: a free Go plan with a small ACH allowance, or Core when you need unlimited QuickBooks Online or Xero sync, and you do not pay a global payee network.
Ramp
Pick Ramp instead if the problem is employee cards and spend controls, not vendor invoices and cross-border payouts.
